Download the game

Free, for your computer. Nothing to install: each download is the whole game in one file (on a Mac, an app in a zip), its HD artwork and music included, ready to run from anywhere.

Choose your system

Never pay for this game. One Must Fall 2097 has been freeware since 1999; its files and the HD artwork are shared on the condition that nobody charges for them. No account, no ads, no tracking.

Before you play

The first start

The downloads aren't code-signed or notarized yet, so your system asks once whether to trust them. Here's how to say yes.

  1. Run the file you downloaded. There's nothing to install: keep it wherever you like.
  2. If Windows says it protected your PC, choose More info, then Run anyway. It asks only the first time.
  3. The first screen sets you up: the original 1994 look in one press, or the remastered graphics your way.

The game runs on Microsoft's WebView2, which Windows 10 and 11 have. Windows XP, 7, 8 and 8.1 can't run it (WebView2 left them behind in 2023): play it in a browser instead. The first time you host a LAN game, Windows may ask whether the game can use the network: allow it on private networks.

  • Updating? Replace the old download with the new one: your settings, records, tournament pilots, replays, mods and Studio projects carry over.
  • Screenshots (F12 or Print Screen), replays and clips go to the OMF 2097 Remastered folder in your Downloads.
  • New to the game? The manual has a one-page quick start, and F1 opens the help at any time.

What's new in 0.4.0

  • Fire and Ice. The one-player game's two secret opponents are here, as the 1994 program hides them. On Champion or harder, win in the Fire Pit, do a destruction, then your robot's Fire & Ice move: it breaks through the floor, and the next fight is against Fire, an enhanced Katana in flame colors, in the burning pit below. On Ultimate the floor there is a grille too, and the same against Fire leads to Ice, a translucent Shadow in a frozen pit. Their fights score 5 and 50 times as much, losing to them costs you nothing, and once you have beaten them the Fire Pit stays closed for the rest of the game.
  • Finisher keys. Turn them on in Options › Controls › Finisher keys: once you have won a fight, one key does your robot's scrap, the next its destruction (the scrap first) and the third its Fire & Ice move, and the special button does the next finishing move, on a gamepad too. The original motions still work.
  • And: Deadly and Ultimate now score 1.5 and 2 times as much, as in the original.
